DE•SYN lab explores how principles of design can advance our

"Stop Thinking So Flat"
  • understanding of cross-disciplinary collaboration in science, as in research on the origin and synthesis of life,
  • study of evolution, emergence, and complexity and the application of these principles,
  • what artificial life can contribute to debates about the origin, evolution, and synthesis of life,
  • ways to apply principles gleaned from case studies above to promote innovation,
  • decision support systems for knowledge synthesis, and
  • application of design method to improve collaborative effectiveness of teams, “raising collaborative IQ.”

DE•SYN lab serves as a Petri dish to culture and observe cross-disciplinary design challenges in “non-mission-critical” design think tanks.
